Income & Documentation Policy

Payslips, bank statements, financials, BAS and alternative documentation can all play a role in lender assessment. Understand the common pathways before asking your client for unnecessary documents.

i
Documentation requirements vary.

This page provides general guidance only. Required documents, verification methods and eligibility criteria vary between lenders and can change without notice. For current requirements, submit the client's scenario to Yes Approved.

Common scenarios

Not every client needs the same documents.

Documentation pathways at a glance

General guidance on the types of documents that may be requested in different finance scenarios.

PAYG Income
Common income evidence can include recent payslips, employment details, income statements, bank statements or electronic verification. Exact requirements vary between lenders and applications.
Self-Employed
Depending on the lender and transaction, income may be assessed using tax returns, financial statements, BAS, business bank statements, accountant declarations or alternative-documentation methods.
Low Doc
Low Doc products are generally designed for eligible self-employed or commercial applicants who can establish their financial position through alternative evidence. Eligibility and documentation rules vary significantly.
Bank Statements
Bank statements can be used to verify income, business turnover or account conduct. The statement period and type required will depend on the lender and application.
BAS
Business Activity Statements may be accepted by selected commercial lenders as part of an alternative income verification pathway, subject to lender criteria.
Alternative Documents
Selected lenders may use combinations of BAS, business bank statements, accountant declarations, asset finance history or other evidence instead of complete financial statements.
A better partner process

Identify the pathway before chasing paperwork.

Asking for every possible document upfront can make a referral unnecessarily difficult for both you and the client.

Start with the scenario

Give us the key facts first so we can identify likely lender and documentation pathways.

  • Employment or business type
  • Approximate income
  • Time employed or trading
  • Asset being purchased
  • Loan amount
  • Any known credit issues

Then collect what's needed

Once a likely pathway is identified, the appropriate supporting information can be requested.

  • Reduce unnecessary document collection
  • Improve the client experience
  • Avoid duplicated requests
  • Match documents to lender requirements
  • Speed up scenario assessment
  • Keep the referral process simple
Partner Tip

Don't tell a self-employed client they need two years of financial statements before checking the scenario. Some lender pathways may use alternative documentation, subject to the client's circumstances and current lender policy.

Not sure what documents are needed?

Send us the scenario first.

We'll review the client's circumstances and help identify the likely lender pathway and supporting documents required before you send the client chasing paperwork.
